Cultural Weekend 2007

Popular Event in the Falcon Calendar

The 15th Annual Cultural Weekend was a major success. Six students from each of 17 schools from all over Zimbabwe made the trip to Falcon College to participate in different cultural activities all weekend. Altogether there were 6 workshops: Art, Singing, Dance, Drama, Writing and Musical Instruments. These workshops were conducted by teachers and professionals from across the country.

The participants in each workshop were worked towards a concert on the final day. They had only 3 workshops of 2 hours each, to learn, practise and perfect their work. It was wonderful to note the high standard of talent displayed by the students: each one was eager to learn new things, and meet new people.

The amazing results of only 3 Art workshops of 2 hours each..  Students produced magnificent pieces of art at the Art Workshop.

The main highlight of the weekend was the street hour, where different activites, such as, line dancing, human chess, face painting, singing etc took place and everyone participated. Memory Chamunorwa, who was the dance workshop coordinator, led the entire group of about 160, in a line dance to the famous song ‘Pata Pata’. Much fun was had by all.

Each visiting school was asked to prepare an item to present at a concert on Saturday night. This year’s performances were of a really high standard The Milton boys got the crowd calling for more after their "Ancestral Spirits" act while the boys from Prince Edward kept the audience enthralled by their "Chinese Race".

The workshop presentations illustrated the outstanding artistic skills of both the coordinators and participants. It was unbelievable that such work could be produced within such a short space of time. These included 2 mimes by the drama group; dramatized excerpts from the writing group;a jazz performance by the musical instruments group, finished works of art by the art group and the angelic singing of the choir.

All in all this was a highly successful weekend and grand appreciation goes out to all the schools who made the huge effort to attend this great event.

Lets hope for 15 more fantastic Cultural Weekends at Falcon College.
