Falcon College Aims for self-sufficiency

With food shortages becoming widespread in Zimbabwe, the College has adopted an aggressive policy towards ensuring food security at the college. We have embarked on several projects in order to realize this.  The poultry project has now made us self-sufficient in chickens.   Every two weeks 500 day-old chicks are brought in for feeding and  an equal number is slaughtered, creating a continuous cycle. The picture shows some of the chickens nearly ready for the Falcon tables..

The plush garden on the right is just a small part of the vegetable project.   In a few months time we will be self-sufficient in all vegetables, with the exception of potatoes.

Bread

Bread supplies from town have become too erratic and the quality of bread being supplied rarely satisfies the discerning taste buds of our boys. The kitchen now bakes bread daily from Sunday through to Friday.  The picture shows one of the workers on a nightly baking shift. About 200 loaves are baked every day to.  This satisfies our daily requirements.

Interhouse Singing Competition results
The Interhouse singing competition took place on the evening of Friday 30th September despite the fact that we have no music department just now.

Mrs Lesley de Noronha put a great deal of work into making it a success and it was a very happy event.

The set song was River of Dreams by Billy Joel.

The competition was won by George Grey who song with enjoyment and whose choice of song was Lean on Me  which they dedicated to Mrs and Mrs Marais.

Interhouse Fishing Competition

Twenty-four pupils participated in the second and final round of the Inter-house Fishing competition held at Lake Cunningham on Sunday 2nd October. Conditions were ideal and some excellent catches were recorded.

The largest bass of 4.15 kg was caught by I Learmonth (Oates)
while G Beahan (Chubb) landed a bream of 1 kg.

On the right:: I Learmonth proudly shows his 4.15 kg bass.
