Etiquette Society & Novices' Dinners
On
Friday 4 November the Novices had their annual braai at the home of Gordon
and Heather Macdonald. This is always a happy and relaxed affair
and it was a pleasant ending to a year which had much to interest the
members of the society.
The
Etiquette Society dinner was held on Saturday 5 November. After consulting Gord on
and Heather Macdonald, who run the society, the members organised the
dinner, deciding on the menu, planning and putting into effect the
decor, and running the evening. The guest speaker this year was
Mr. Andy Laing (Chairman of the Board of Governors) and other guests
were Heather Gaston, and Will and Brigitte Randle. The dinner was
excellent, and the whole occasion was
a great success - much credit to the boys.
House
Suppers - keeping the Falcon tradition.
This
year the house suppers were held on Friday 11th November. The light rain
showers did not dampen the spirit in the houses. At house suppers
the boys in each house have a meal (almost always a barbecue) with their
Housemaster, House Tutor, members of staff attached to the houses,
invited parents and invited guests. House suppers provide boys
with the opportunity to bid farewell to the leavers and to reflect, in a
light-hearted manner, the achievements (and failures?) of the house during the
year. House "skits" usually summarise, in a very humourous way, the way the house
prefects and leavers in the house conducted themselves in the house
during the year.. It's all good fun and staff seldom escape being
cartooned!

Interhouse
Swimming Gala
The weather was ideal for the annual Inter-House Swimming
Gala on Saturday 12th November. Despite fuel shortages, more
parents than expected attended the Gala.
Grant Beahan excelled at the gala, collecting 5 trophies in all. Mrs Beahan,
the guest of honour at the Gala, presented trophies to the winners. The
Gala was a great success. Altogether 9 records were broken and the
competitors must be commended for this, and the spirit of
competitiveness which they all showed. Grant
Beahan, the College swimming Captain for 2005, poses for photographs with his
mother.after the presentations. Grant shows off three of the five pieces of
silverware he collected at the Gala. Beahan is a
"star-studded" swimmer. He collected 3 gold, 1 silver and 2
bronze medals at the Sub-Saharan swimming trials during the half-term.
He was selected to captain the Zimbabwe team for the Sub-Saharan
swimming tour in Zambia from 5 - 7 January next year. In recognition of
his outstanding contribution to swimming and his outstanding
achievements, the Colours Committee awarded Grant Honours at the Gala.
 Part
of the Hervey House crowd celebrates imminent victory as the
points are announced just before the final relays. Hervey House
won the Gala with 546 points just 6 points ahead of George Grey.

Leavers'
Dinner 2005
Is this
A The Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)?
B The Aurora Australis (Southern Lights)?
C Lights of Las
Vegas?
Sorry, None of the above - click thumbnail to see!
This
picture caught some of the diners during the 2005 annual Leavers' Dinner in the
Todd Hall. The infra-red radiation from the candles sensitized the
camera to give the long, impressive but unrealistic glows.. The
guest speaker was Danny Tanser, an ex-Falcon student. Tanser is an
electrical engineer graduate from the University of Cape Town. Mr
Tanser was the resource person and trainer at the Lower Sixth leadership
Course held recently at Matopos.
