Primary Schools'
Inaugural Cricket Festival
Falcon College recently hosted the inaugural primary schools' cricket
Festival. The schools that participated were Hartman House, St
John's Preparatory School, Ruzawi, Victoria Falls primary, Murray
MacDougall, Barwick, Lilfordia and Whitestone.

The event was well-attended with some parents pitching
tents at the Bryce Hendrie swimming pool and some checking in at the
Chalets in Quiet Waters Conservation area. Some commuted from
Bulawayo. The Cricketers were housed in the hostels and taken around the
college. All catering was provided by the kitchen.
A cricket format, draw up by the Director of Sport at
Falcon and the International Cricket Umpire, Richard Harrison, meant
that all boys batted and bowled and teams' scores were divided by the
number of times batters were out. Bowlers were restricted to two
overs each. Right: Cricketers relaxing after a match
The
Ruzawi contingent. Ruzawi won the tournament by a fraction of a run.
The tournament took place over Friday afternoon and
the whole day Saturday with teams playing in pools and then in a
semi-final. St John's preparatory and Ruzawi contested the final,
with Ruzawi winning by a fraction of a run on the last ball bowled.
The Bushtick was central to the Festival for parents
and entertainment for the primary school boys in the form of activities
at the pool and a tug-of-war proved very popular. Conservative estimates
indicate that about 100 parents attended the event.
Our promotional DVD was presented to all adults on the
Friday evening. The event proved very successful with parents down
from Harare making comments like: "We feel we have been away
on holiday".
This event will be held annually here at Falcon and
already we have had requests from other Junior Schools both within the
country and externally, to join the Festival.
The New gazebo a beautiful landmark

gazebo which overlooks the main cricket field.
The new gazebo is really an imposingly beautiful landmark. It has
replaced what had become an eyesore at the m ain
Cricket field. The gazebo was ready for the Primary Schools' Cricket
festival.

Work on the Mark Davenport Gymnasium is scheduled to start
soon. The existing Mark Davenport Pavilion is to be demolished to
give way to the new Gymnasium.
The picture below shows the architecture's impression of the
gymnasium when completed

The Davenport Pavilion was built by the Davenport family in memory of
their son, Mark, a former student of Falcon College who died tragically
in a car accident in the late 80's.
