| The School Play - No
Good Friday
A very successful play with a serious
theme. The 11 Actors acquitted themselves admirably in this
two-hour play.

always enjoy it when parents come in to support them.

The School Play - No
Good Friday
The Setting: Sophiatown, Johannesburg 1950s
This term the play chosen for performance was one of Athol Fugard's
Township Plays, No-Good Friday. It is set in Sophiatown in the 1950s,
the days of Apartheid
South Africa. It concerns a group of people caught up in a Protection
racket run by a thug called Shark. The play takes place in the backyard
and home of Willie, a
young man, growing more and more disillusioned with the situation and
his life. When the white priest, Father Higgins, asks him to find a job
for a migrant worker, Tobias, and he is killed by Sharks henchman,
Harry, he decides to go to the police, despite the fact that this will
probably mean certain death.
Other characters are Willie's partner, Rebecca, Guy, a saxophone player,
looking for work and Pinkie, a teaboy with a gripe, as well as a couple
of other hangers-on. It is quite adult in the issues discussed and the
boys have had to do more real acting than they are used to. .I have been
very pleased with their commitment and hard work and the schoolboy
audiences, despite the seriousness of the plot have responded favourably
and with apparent enjoyment. Thabisani Ndlovu has helped with the
direction and Patricia Ndlovu with the costumes. Our new music teacher,
Billy St John, has been invaluable as stage manager and the hidden
saxophone player!
Next term we hope to produce a musical so watch for news of that and do
try and come along to watch. it is rather disheartening for the boys
when no or very few
outsiders come to watch their plays.

Interhouse Fishing Competition - Round 1
The
first round of the Falcon College inter-house fishing competition was
held at Longden's Dam on Sunday 2nd April 2006. Each house fielded a
team of six anglers and although weather conditions on the day were
ideal a cold spell earlier during the week had an adverse effect on
fishing. Gary Whitehead-Willson who kindly agreed to look after the
weigh-in had a very easy time with only three fish to deal with !
However a team of parents with affiliations to George Grey (Mike Stone
and Mike Querl) ended up with a very impressive bag of Nilotica -
proving that there were fish in dam and it was just technique that
counted.
Beneath the scenic beauty surrounding Longden's
Dam, partially submerged competitors wait in anticipation.

This lot thought otherwise and decided to fish from
the banks of the dam

Parent Supporters show the way. Mr. Mike Stone lands a fish while Mr
Whitehead-Willson (seated) awaits his turn in anticipation.
