Carlisle Primary School Presentation - Out Reach reaching for the disadvantaged

On Friday the 16th March just before the Board Meeting Mr. Harvey Leared, Mr. Andy Laing, and Mr. Mike Carter accompanied Reg Querl and Jacqui Stewart at a presentation at Carlisle School. The school has 57 pupils in their Grade 1-7 and 16 in their pre-school and Grade 0 and is attached to Falcon College. Most of the pupils are children of Falcon staff though some come from homes outside the College. The presentation of stationary, exercise books, sports equipment, cleaning products and juice concentrates was part of the initiative of the Reach for the Stars fundraising drive – called Outreach – designed to benefit the disadvantaged schools within our immediate communities. A similar presentation was held earlier in the month by Lilfordia School to their neighboring Umzururu junior school.

The Headmaster, Mr. Patrick Nyoni, and staff gathered the children under the shade of the car-park trees and graciously accepted the goods from Mr. Harvey Leared.

Founders Day Athletics Meetings - A Great Day in our Calendar.  Tredgold House Lifts the Championship Shield
The annual Founders Day Interhouse Athletics meetings was held on Saturday 17 March.  It was, as usual, a great day for Falcon despite the high temperatures experienced on that day.  For Tredgold House this was a day to remember; Tredgold house had last won the Championship shield in 1989.

Everyone would want to watch the events from a vantage point, but who would not want a bird's eye view of the meeting?

Beneath the clear blue skies, an eagle keeps a watchful eye on the athletics meetings.

Roof of Ancient Africa Expedition - Woodsmoke Outing to Ethiopia, 2007

At the end of this year 10 senior members of the Woodsmoke Club and 'veterans' of the expeditions to the Chimanimani (Eastern Highlands, Zimbabwe), Mount Mulange (Malawi) and the Drakensburg (South Africa) are planning a challenging expedition to the Ethiopian Highlands.  The last such big scale venture by the Woodsmoke Club was the successful 'Roof of Africa' expedition of 2002/3, which saw a team of 10 boys and 2 adults scale both Mounts Kenya and Kilimanjaro.

Ethiopia is probably the most mountainous country in Africa, indeed its ancient highlands are often referred to as the Roof of Africa, hence the name of the expedition - the Roof of Ancient Africa.

We will soon be publishing a special feature on the proposed expedition to Ethiopia.
