Plans for the new double storey Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre to be constructed behind the Dugmore memorial Library have been approved and work is scheduled to start soon. A 'construction compound' has already been erected at the Old Swimming Pool to house the workers engaged at the various constructions sites. Left: Construction Compound. There are about 25 metal delta huts to house the workers, complete with running water and electricity.
And its not all about work........... Right: A makeshift TV aerial juts above one of the delta huts at
the compound.
Grahamstown 32nd Arts Festival - 2006 Eight Falcon College boys will depart on 27 June for Grahamstown, South Africa, for the annual Arts Festival. Mr. T Ndlovu and Mrs. P Ndlovu will be accompanying the boys. This will be the thirty-second Festival and Falcon will be attending for the ninth time. The Festival brings together the best of South African and International talent in dance, drama, music, visual arts and many other art forms. The boys get to experience these at the highest level and also get a chance to exercise a degree of independence and responsibility.
This
week has been very busy for Falcon College with a huge attempt to get
our boys involved in the 5th annual, bigger than ever,
Bulawayo Music Festival and Isigodlo Arts. Boys
joined forces with Milton, Christian Bothers College, Girls College,
Convent and the BPO Choir’s to create a vibrant and exciting choir of
up to 150 singers performing ‘The Rhythm of Life’ and ‘Big Band
Swing’. The end result was amazing harmony and music that can only be
described as inspiring. A group of boys went to support their fellow pupils on Thursday and also enjoyed the day’s events of Marimbas, Dance and Singing. More boys and my self attended the Festival on Friday afternoon and we stayed well into the evening. Isigodlo’s ‘Make It Happen’ show was a fantastic array of dance, fashion, music and drama, all fused into one show that is a real testament to the talent that Bulawayo has to offer and to the efforts of Amanda Van Der Merwe and Dawn Close. Left: Munyaradzi Tirivepi on (extreme left) leads the septet in a song at the Festival.
On
Saturday morning a group of boys took part in a Street Dance session.
They performed an original rap song and were backed with dancers. After
a morning or Hip Hop, Dance and African Music, I took the boys to watch
the Harare Youth Orchestra. Although I spent most of the time, keeping
them I awake, The Youth Orchestra were amazing, and it is so fantastic
that there is such a great level of talent among young musicians in
Zimbabwe. Back
on Sunday for a performance from myself as part of the Girls' College
Jazz Band called ‘Affinity’. The Mid Week Band, still yet to be
formally named, joined in other Church Bands in the Rock Sundae
afternoon concert. I
hope the boys have been inspired to do great tings at our school after
seeing what other schools have produced. It has been a great experience
for those boys to see what the Bulawayo music scene can create.
