Art Mock Exams held under generator lights as Load Shedding continues

Load shedding which has continued daily, save for Wednesdays did not stop the Art examinations.  A 3kVA generator was deployed in the art Room to enable students to continue with their exams.  The Art exams are long sessions and this has given the boys a taste of what might happen in the final exams.

Boys awarded  First Aid Basics Certificate by Mars
Following a successful three-week training course held at the MARS (Medical Air Rescue Services) premises in Bulawayo, six falcon boys were recently awarded the MARS certificate in First Aid Basics.  The much-coveted certificates are a credit to the boys effort.  These boys are always seen at every match giving prompt and qualified first aid assistance to injured sportsman.

Voltage Regulator for Generator Sourced.
Generator to be commissioned soon

A new voltage generator has been sourced from South Africa and has now been installed.  The generator which will supply the entire College with lighting will soon be commissioned.  Although the generator does not have the capacity to provide heating for geysers, electric fires and stoves it will enable students to do their prep during power outages.

Form 1 Adventure Course - the usual success story

The Form 1 Adventure Course was held from Monday  June to Wednesday.  The adventure course, as usual engaged the boys in a variety of outdoor activities.  One of the students on the course, TK Ndlovu filed this report:

The course was organised by Mr. Wil Randle.  It started on Monday 4th June.  The six proud houses of Falcon; Chubb, Founders, George Grey, Hervey, Oates and Tredgold were divided into two groups.  In one group was Chubb, George Grey and Founders and in the other were hervey, Oates and Tredgold.

The confidence course.  From 1 boys

On the first day, Group 1 had orienting with Mrs. Randle.  First Aid with with Sister Tshuma and Sister Simpson and Bush Cooking with Mr. Macdonald.  mr Macdonald taught us how to make a potjie and most of the boys found it exciting.  They went to Quiet waters and did Tracking with Mr. Guthrie, bushcraft with Mr. Randle and later climbed Usandisa hill.

Group 2 had knots with Mr. Bancroft, chicken culling with Mr. Don and confidence Course with Mr. Armstrong and they went to the vlei in the afternoon.  This course was designed to entertain and make one discover one another's weak links.

Day 1
Our first port of call was orienting and we had to find red tins with letters and I found this interesting.  Our next point was First Aid with Sisters Simpson and Tshuma.  We learnt about the three p's: prevent, protect and preserve which are essential in First Aid.  We also learnt about recovery position when someone is unconscious.  Our next call was bushcooking and we learnt hw to make a potjie.  Mr Macdonald made a delicious potjie before our walk to Quiet Waters picnic sites.  When we reached Quiet Waters we did bushcraft with mr randle.  We climbed Usandisa and the funniest part was when Ian Riley and Mr Moyo got lost in Usandisa.  In the evening we cooked a potjie which was voted the best in Group 1.

Day 2

We woke up and packed our stuff.  We begun our long walk to the vlei.  The vlei is the coldest place at falcon.  We reached the vlei and did orienting Quiet Waters.  We went to falcon grounds and did knots with Mr. Bancroft which was interesting, chicken culling with Mr. Don and I, for the first time, killed a chicken.  It wasn't a nice experience I have to admit.  We went onto the confidence course which was scary.  That night we cooked chicken and my house, Founders barbecued it.  It was delicious.  I have to say I went to sleep early and it was cold.

Day 3

We woke up and went to falcon grounds.  All the house gathered at the swimming pool for the challenge.  It was very exciting and A Moyo swam one and three quarter lengths in an attempt to break the record of 2 lengths.  We then went back to our houses.

I think the course was well-organised and I thank Mr. Randle and his team for their hard work.  I enjoyed myself and I learnt a lot about myself, other people's weaknesses and team work is the only way to success.
