 The College Falcon Breeding Project

The College has 2 pairs of Peregrines and 2 pairs of Taita Falcons at the Headmaster’s House.

It has a pair of Peregrines and a pair of Taita Falcons at the Falconry club.

This season – very sadly, the male peregrine, who was 21 years old, died. This is the oldest bird in the Zimbabwe Falconers’ Club. This has meant that this pair has not bred. The Taita falcons at the Falconry Club who have also never bred, did not breed again this year.

The Peregrines at the Head’s house – one pair laid two clutches of eggs – three eggs in each clutch. Only one of the second clutch was fertile. That chick is now three weeks’ old. The second pair of peregrines did not lay even though they really did do everything from copulation to building a scrape on the ledge.

Both pairs of Taita falcons at the Head’s House laid 3 eggs, none of which were fertile. They also have not recycled, which is the norm with Taita falcons. The one pair has not laid an egg for 6 years since being moved from Mr. W. Gau at Harare south. Our lack of success in breeding Taita falcons is still a mystery.

Inside Mrs. Macdonald's Room

This is the view inside Mrs. Macdonald's classroom.  The classroom is on the upstairs of the Dugmore Memorial Library and is the only classroom situated on the first floor at Falcon College.  The room is quite airy although the scenery as viewed from there is fast changing due to construction work at the new Computer Centre.  In the picture are form 3A students attending an English lesson.

When the new computer centre is completed it will have an upstairs lab in line with Mrs. Macdonald's room.

Mylne Society Last Meeting 2006
The Mylne Society has been quite active throughout the year. With exams pending and boys likely to leave at different times, the Society held its last meeting for 2006 last week. It was an emotional end to a successful year as life-time friendships were forged through the Society.
