About Mr Ben Brooks
Mr
Ben Brooks was educated at Pretoria Boys’ High, the University of the
Witwatersrand and the University of South Africa. He was the founder principal
at Wendywood High School and was Headmaster of Redhill School in Johannesburg
from 1991 to 2003. He retired to Mtunzini at the end of 2003.
Ben has been involved in wider education throughout his teaching career. He served on a number of advisory committees in the Transvaal Education Department, he was a long-standing member of the executive of the Transvaal Teachers’ Association and he edited the National Union of Educators Magazine for six years.
He has served on the National Executive of the Conference of Heads of Independent Schools and was Chairman of the Central Region of that Conference. He initiated a programme of school-based teacher training for Independent Schools which is now entrenched nation wide.
Ben is the co-author of "Insights", an English textbook. He was Chief Examiner of English Writing in the TED for a decade and he has written a number of articles on education for various newspapers, journals and websites.
Two Rotary clubs have named him as a Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation of outstanding service above self.
He has completed the Comrades Marathon 16 times and has coached first team rugby and cricket at four different schools.
Ben is married to Patti and has two children: Robert who holds a PhD in Zoology and works at the University of New South Wales, and Leonie who is an accountant (CFA) in Mtunzini. He rejoices in having the ABC of grandsons: Anthony, Ben and Christopher.
