Third Term 2006 |
Dear
Parents
Thank you to the vast majority for
getting your payments in and promptly settled – we really are most grateful
indeed as this helps with our operation.
In the holidays, Tredgold Form One Dorm has been completed and is now operational. We are very pleased with the outcome. We now move to George Grey and hope to have the remaining two Houses done as soon as we can –Hervey is to be done before Christmas and Founders in the new year. Both these Houses need major structural work.
Our Gym is coming along, although we are a bit behind schedule because of availability of materials.
The new Computer Centre is going ahead and the foundations are now dug.
The mini buses are being painted, the first of which has been returned to us and looks wonderful. All our buses will be the same light blue as the Scania buses. Our thanks to Mr. Mavros and his team for coming up with a paint format. It really looks wonderful!
Four of our young men have returned from their trip to the Young Global Leaders’ Conference in America. They once again experienced the ‘real world’. It was very interesting to note that all the boys commented on the food in America – not always in a positive light!
During the holidays, Falcon boys played in the National U18 Rugby side in Morocco, which qualified for the World Cup next year in Ireland.
We toured Natal with a Tennis team and while we did not win any games, the boys created a great impression and were good ambassadors for the School.
Our Soccer team won the CHIZ Schools’ tournament in Masvingo and three boys were chosen for the CHIZ Schools’ team. They were M. Mpala, M. Sibanda and N.K. Ncube. Congratulations to Mr. Khumalo and the team.
Our Cricket side played in the Schools’ week and then the 20/20 competition and while they did not do very well, there were several notable performances. M. Bint scored 100 and Jason Graham scored 98 not out.
The following awards were made for Soccer this week:

Academic studies, as always, have to be the thrust for this term, especially for the exam candidates, leading into the exams. A policy decision about the half term break is that boys may go out, but must be back on Sunday afternoon, if they have an exam on Monday.
Please could parents be supportive of the College at this time. The best place for boys is here where they have access to the staff and all their learning materials. Boys often get great ideas about a different learning environment. This, in our opinion, should be discouraged.
We are hoping to have several 3rd year NUST students helping Heads of Departments with weak students to try to get them additional assistance prior to the exams.
Many thanks to the families who have sent goods for the Moth Cottages –it will make a difference to these peoples’ lives.
Have a great week.
