SPORTS REPORT NOVEMBER 2005 |
|
|
Term is now over and that also means the school year of 2005 has come to an end. We can look back and assess our achievements on the sports field, the successes and failures, the surprises and disappointments. It is rare at Falcon for the bad to outweigh the good and this year has been no exception and the achievements of the 1st XV rugby in the second term and the more recent triumphs of the 1st water polo side must rank this year with the best. Congratulations must go to all members of all teams and their coaches. I also feel it is right to make mention of other people, who deserve credit for their part in the successful running of sport at Falcon. Their roles must not be underestimated :
There is not a great deal to recount from these last 3 weeks of term. School matches were largely over though the junior basketball sides did have a final round of matches at Gifford, meeting with mixed success. Junior tennis House matches took place with Oates coming out victorious and Asaph Nyathi, also of Oates, winning the junior tennis championship (if I have understood correctly which I possibly haven’t!). Then there was the junior inter House cricket. Chubb caused something of an upset by reaching the final but they lost in a low scoring (and it must be said pretty incompetent!) final to Oates. Kuda Chiwanza (Tredgold) made the highest individual score, 98 vs George Grey. Brandon Strydom (Chubb) was the leading wicket taker The biggest event was the Swimming Gala. I am no great fan of swimming galas but this turned out to be pretty competitive and exciting with positions changing over the course of the morning until Hervey eventually emerged as winners from George Grey with Oates in third place. It is good to know that some people do actually read these reports from time to time and one old boy recently requested some details of the swimming times and records. Sadly I am not able to oblige on this occasion as Martha Querl, who has them, left for a few days away yesterday. I can, however, honour those who scored most points in their respective age-groups. These boys were :
A number of Falcon boys will be travelling to Namibia in a few days time to represent Zimbabwe in age-group cricket teams.
I will try to give you a report back on their achievements at a later date as I have just today been asked to stand in as the U14 manager as the originally appointed person has been forced to pull out so I look forward to that trip.
