Headmaster's Weekly Bulletin: 10 October 2008

WEEK FIVE OF THIRD TERM, 2008

Dear Parents

Sadly, I have had to ask three boys from Hervey House to leave the school. The boys were involved in a theft from staff houses and then drinking and bunking out.
It is always very sad to lose boys, but we cannot tolerate that kind of behaviour in any form. It is a cancer that we have to eradicate from the College. I hope, as I always do, that this serves as a lesson to others so that this behaviour goes away.

We had our Sports’ Dinner last weekend where Gavin Stephens, the Vice President of the Hockey Association, spoke to us. His message was that boys need to keep up their sport after school, and that the stars are the limit. It was a very pleasant evening. Tom Randell gave the vote of thanks and spoke very well indeed.

We had a Housemasters’ seminar, with a few new parents, on Sunday morning – the seminar was very useful and all the information that was gleaned from there will be disseminated to all new parents. I wish to make it quite clear that no-one should feel left out and we do not favour certain groups at Falcon. The group chosen was a complete random selection and everyone will, in the future, have an opportunity to speak to Housemasters and the hierarchy of the College. I know that the Parents’ Committee has organized a get-together on Thursday 13 November at McAllister’s Lodge, for past, present and future Mums, and all new parents will be invited.

This week I presented two boys with Honours certificates for their efforts in the National Institute of Allied Arts competition. The boys were: Jason Stone and Adrian Kondowe. This is a wonderful achievement.

ICDL EXAMS:
The following boys have done really well:
T Rowe (Form 2B) and N.M. Matshange (Form 2B) – both achieved 97% in the MS. Word exam.
Form 2A – B.L. Mtetwa, T.M. Jongwe, T.K. Ndlovu, L.K. Sibanda – all have passed 5 ICDL Modules to date and only have 2 Modules left to get ICDL Certification.
This is a fine effort and these boys are congratulated.

We hope we see some parents here this weekend. There will be Basketball 1st team Carvahlo Trophy here at Falcon, Cricket vs Peterhouse here – 2nd XI, 3rd XI, U16B, U15B and U14B and of course, Waterpolo 1st team Crusader Shield in Bulawayo.

Have a good weekend.
