WEEK SIX OF THIRD TERM 2008
Dear Parents
I was rereading some pages from ‘Beyond the Limits’ by Ranulph
Fiennes. This is a book full of lessons learned from a lifetime’s
adventures. He said: “Don’t be put off by all the apparent obstacles.
The very act of starting the ball rolling will shift quite a few
of them”.
At this time I think this is very relevant in our country. The
message of hope from our Chairman at Speech Day is always inspirational.
We had a very good sporting week. The games of Cricket against Peterhouse were all keenly contested. The First XI’s double victory was outstanding. We also won the local Carvalho Basketball Trophy against CBC and Petra. Our First team Waterpolo was counted out of the Crusader Shield by goal difference, as the three top sides were drawn at the top of the table.

EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS:
Mrs. Lyn McElvaine will be visiting the College in order to conduct
educational assessments. These assessments can be very useful
as they can help to discover areas in which students are having
difficulties. This information can then be used by teachers to
structure tuition to the individual’s needs. Mrs. McElvaine is
also professionally qualified to recommend extra time in public
examinations such as the ‘O’ and ‘A’ level exams.
Places are limited, so if you wish to have your son assessed,
please contact Amanda Watson at awatson@falconcollege.com.
Mrs. McElvaine’s fees are US$200 and payment of this fee will
secure a booking.
If you have had your son assessed independently of the School,
please ensure that a copy of his educational assessment report
is lodged with the School. We are unable to request extra time
if we do not have a copy of that report.
BUS FARES:
Please would parents note that the bus fares have gone up, with
immediate effect:
Destination Return fare in units
Harare/Victoria Falls 46
Kadoma/Chegutu 38
Kwe Kwe 24
Gweru/Botswana 18
These fares must be paid in cash. No cheques, RTGS or direct deposits
are acceptable.
SCHOOL SHOP will be open on Tuesday 21 October from 1.45 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.
This is a difficult time in our country’s history – a time when we should all be positive. Our young people, and their education, is paramount to the reconstruction of our country. Our top-up letter from the Chairman has gone out and I appeal to each and every one of you to do all you can to get that payment to the College so that we may continue in the fashion to which we are accustomed. It is really very unfair if some folk drag their feet on payment, as they are then relying on others to support their son.
Have a good weekend with your son.
R.W. QUERL
