| Headmaster's newsletter, week thirteen of third term 2011 |
Thank you so much to all the Harare parents who attended our meeting on fees, at the "Tin Roof". My grateful thanks to the Brays for allowing us to use their facility - it served our purpose very well indeed. Many thanks to Mrs. Debbie Bray for the delicious ham rolls. I must also say how grateful I am for the positive attitude displayed by the parents; it really is most encouraging.
I would like to announce that Mr. Studin Ncube has been appointed to the position of Head of Department for Design Technology. This is a growing department and we hope that he takes this subject to new heights. Mr. Tony Bancroft has stood down.
Mr. Rodwell Khumalo, an Old Boy and ex Deputy Head of School, has been appointed to the Housemastership of Hervey House. Mr. D. Fleming will be monitoring Rodwell initially to help him establish himself in the position. This is no reflection on Rodwell - Dave will simply serve as back up.
Mr. Craig Hepburn, Mr. Graham Armstrong and my secretary, Laraine Oosthuizen (nee King) leave the College at the end of the year. They have all made a contribution to Falcon and we wish them well in the future.
Please could I appeal to all parents to make sure that their sons have proper track shoes when returning next year. All sorts of casual shoes are appearing as track shoes, including checked tackies, fluorescent laces, etc. I appreciate that modern track shoes have changed, but we need boys to have practical footwear for sport.
Haircuts have caused some issues this term and I urge all parents to take control in this area and send boys back with regulation hair cuts, please!
The term has been a full one and Falcon boys have achieved a great deal - the Carol service on Sunday evening saw a whole lot of new faces emerge on to the Music scene at the College. The service was a delight and I thank Cecile Ferreira for her input. The Christmas Dinner followed the Service and 365 staff, boys and visitors sat down together to share the occasion.

CAREERS:
There will be a series of talks next term, when Mrs. Celine Scheijde
will bring guest speakers to address seniors on a variety of careers.
The programme was a great success this year, and parents who have
senior boys at the College are urged to encourage their sons to come
to as many of these presentations as possible, so that they are as
informed as possible of what options they have. There will also be
a presentation on interview techniques later on in the term.
Please note that all senior boys are welcome to consult Mrs. Macdonald
about any career questions they may have. All they need to do is to
make an appointment, in good time, and she will do her best to help.
GIRLS' HOUSE STAFF:
With the moving of the Falcon Girls' house, we would like to advertise
that our domestic staff (2 maids and a gardener) will be looking for
employment from January 2012. They all come highly recommended. If
anyone has any position to offer, please contact Martha Querl at Falcon
College.
