Headmaster's Weekly Bulletin: 7 November 2008

WEEK NINE OF THIRD TERM 2008

Dear Parents

The Head of School, his Deputy and the College Prefects were announced on Friday morning and thus the weekend began.

We had a wonderful swimming gala weekend. The festivities started with ‘House Suppers’ on Friday evening. These are very special events in the eyes of the boys – both those staying and those leaving. They are ‘boy’ occasions where those staying can “pull the leg” of those leaving and the new House Prefects are also announced.

A special House supper was the Chubb event, where they celebrated their 25th year of existence and the very first Head boy of Chubb House, Bruce Campbell, spoke. The dinner was an outstanding occasion where the House sang the School song and various groups of boys prepared and performed several songs. “The Drummers” from Victoria Falls were also brought down for the occasion and were quite amazing. A special thanks must go to Orlando Fernandes, the Housemaster, and all those parents who rallied round and helped in so many ways. The food, the décor and the company was extremely good indeed.

SWIMMING GALA:
The results of this gala are as follows:

1st George Grey 530 points
2nd Tredgold 495 points
3rd Oates 435 points
4th Chubb 410 points
5th Founders 403 points
6th Hervey 399 points.

ALLIED ARTS AWARDS:
This week we received awards from Allied Arts, achieving 17 first, second and third class awards and 3 Honours’ awards. Three scripts have been retained by the Allied Arts for possible National awards.
Honours awards went to: Dexter Otto, Sambulo Sibando, Eugene Ndebele.
First Grade awards went to: Tafadzwa Chida, David Strathmore, Bongani Mtetwa, Takudzwa Macheka.

EXAMS:
We move into our internal exam week, which starts on Tuesday 11th and ends on Friday 14th. Please, do not listen to your son, who will suggest to you that the year is now done. There is an awful lot that still takes place before the term ends. We do end earlier than others, so please do NOT request to take your son out of school before Tuesday the 2nd. December. There is consultation for Forms One, Two and Three, and staff really would like to see you on that occasion. Please make every effort to be there for these consultations. Individual contact with the staff can often resolve issues instantly.

OUTSTANDING FEES:
Please would all parents note that all outstanding fees need to be in as soon as possible to enable the College to operate to its full potential. It is unfair on the College, the staff and those parents who have paid. Sadly, there will be consequences for parents and their boys if this is not done by the fixture free. Please avoid this situation by paying your outstanding debts.
