WEEK ONE OF FIRST TERM 2009

Dear Parents

We have had the most amazing week of rain - in excess of 200 mm. Our weir has been spilling now for over a week, our Southern paddocks dam is almost full and water has been running into the mine for a week.

Sadly, Cricket has been badly affected because the fields are under water in some places. It has, however, been great running weather, which is good.

I travelled to South Africa early on Tuesday morning and saw various Headmasters, with a view to our competing sport-wise with them. I visited schools in Mussina and Polokwane and also met with the Chief Immigration officers in Beitbridge and on the South African side. Both of these gentlemen gave me assurances that a fast passage through the border would be possible. I would now like to ask parents to please start making arrangements for a valid passport for your son. It would be very sad to have to leave out a boy because he does not have the correct documentation. I am excited about this development, as it really will give our boys more opportunities to compete internationally.

We are having our Open Day today and look forward to showing a group of prospective parents around the College. We do not anticipate as many as usual, as next weekend is our primary schools' Cricket festival, where 12 teams will compete and they are using this as an Open Day.

Our Form One boys seem to be well settled. There are still a few suffering from homesickness, but we are most certainly getting there. I noticed several groups going into Quiet Waters over the weekend, which is always a good bonding exercise.

May I wish you all a good week.
