Headmaster's newsletter, 7 April 2009 |
Thank you so much for your support at Founders Day. It was a really good turnout and the boys were most grateful to see this support. It also helps with the atmosphere created and the 'team, house spirit' building that goes on. It really is a day when everyone can contribute in some way towards the House effort. The final results were:
| 6th | Chubb House | 953 |
| 5th | Oates House | 1008 |
| 4th | Tredgold House | 1037 |

| 1st | George Grey House | 1121 |

PASSPORTS/VISAS - RUGBY PLAYERS:
My appeal again - if your son is likely to play in the 14A/15A/16A/1st
or 2nds, he needs to return next term with his passport or ETD. We
are playing in Mussina on 6th June and really need your co-operation
in terms of travel documents. We would like to travel with the strongest
teams possible.
HOLIDAY SPORT:
The Soccer and Hockey1st teams have travelled to South Africa to play
in various tournaments. The Soccer team is playing in Mafeking in
a festival which has 16 teams taking part. The Hockey side is playing
in Potchestroom.. The 1st XV and U16A Rugby teams will take part in
the Cottco tournament at Prince Edward. This starts on Monday 27th
April and goes through to Saturday 2nd May.
LAUNDRY:
We are working hard to get the Laundry to operate as efficiently as
possible. Please could we ask you to check all clothing these coming
holidays. Also please make sure that name tapes are legible, that
clothes needing mending, are mended and send extra clothing labels
back to school with your son, to be lodged in the Laundry.

REMEDIAL TEACHER:
We are fortunate to have Amanda Watson, who is a qualified Remedial
teacher. We have many boys with learning problems with whom she works
in the afternoons. Some parents are unaware of this facility, so I
thought I would mention it in this newsletter.
HAIRCUTS:
Please make sure that your son returns to school at the start of next
term with a regulation haircut and colour.. It is really very inconvenient
if he does not.
HATS AND CAPS:
Please will you make sure that if your son has a cap or hat that is
faded to grey, it is replaced. I do know that the older it looks,
the more the boys like it, but it does tarnish our image somewhat,
especially if worn with number ones.
SCHOOL SHOP:
This will be open on Sunday 3rd May from 10.00 a.m. to 12 noon. We
hope by then to have in stock the following articles that have been
unavailable for some time:
Anoraks, Fleece Jackets, Tracksuits, Navy (and white) rugby jerseys,
Rugby stockings, small size House T- shirts, Hats and Caps.
ACCIDENT:
Many people would have already heard that there was a vehicle accident
at the grid on the road to Esigodini, on Friday night. A young man,
who left Falcon a year ago, took a group of boys for a drive. When
approaching the grid, they hit an Eagle owl. They swerved to try and
avoid the owl, over corrected and the vehicle rolled. There were nine
boys involved. Keegan Langley has severe head injuries and was flown
to Johannesburg for further treatment. The driver of the vehicle,
Matthew Bint, was also flown to Johannesburg for treatment to his
arm, while Samson Phiri underwent several operations on his arm and
leg in Mater Dei Hospital and seems to be recovering well.
All the other boys suffered lacerations and bruising and being in
a satisfactory condition, were all discharged.
This is a very unfortunate accident and our prayers are with all the
injured, but especially with the Langley, Phiri and Bint families.
It is so important that we learn from and impress upon, and implore
the boys for the need to be doing the right things and to abide by
the Standing Orders of the School.
I wish to take this opportunity to wish you a peaceful and happy Easter and holiday with your sons. We look forward to seeing you all back at Falcon for the 2nd term on Sunday 3rd May. The boys must be in by 12 noon at the latest.
