Headmaster's newsletter, 8 May 2009 |
I believe that I should start this Newsletter with news on Keegan Langley and Jason Stone. Keegan is still in a coma, but there are some positive signs. His Mum, Sally, is still down South with him and his two brothers have returned to school. There really is no way of knowing how long this current phase will last.
Jason Stone was diagnosed in the holidays with Leukeamia in the acute stage and was taken to South Africa where he has undergone treatment. Yesterday for the first time there were some significantly positive signs in his blood count.
We all continue to pray and think about these two young men from our community. Please do not hesitate to go to the Keegan Langley web site and if you have any ideas in terms of fund-raising for the Trust, do not hesitate to contact us.
The boys who were involved in the “bunking out” incident have been punished. Those who were in positions of authority have been demoted and the other boys were beaten six. We have also changed the procedure at the main gate. We now permanently close the gate at 10.30 p.m. and open it again at 6.00 a.m. I have also made it clear to the College that being out of the Boarding House after hours will be punished very severely.

Honours:
Tinashe Murasiranwa captained the College Athletics' team in 2009
which won both the Inter-schools' Relay meeting at CBC and the Inter-schools'
Competition at Falcon. His individual performances over the last two
years have been outstanding, resulting in him being Victor Ludorum
in 2008 and 2009. His commitment and dedication to the team was exemplary
and inspirational to the rest of the team. He led from the front by
attaining five first places in this year's Inter-schools' event at
Falcon and therefore, thoroughly deserves the award of Honours.

Headmaster's Trip to South Africa:
I visited Pretoria Boys High during the holidays and was wonderfully
received. Their Headmaster of 20 years, Mr Schroeder, was and still
is great friends with an ex-Falcon teacher, Mr. Paul Canon, and so
he was very aware of our School. We hope to set up a boy exchange
before the end of the year. The CEO of Pretoria Boys High is a Falcon
Old Boy, Neil van Coller, and he, too, was fantastic, making all his
suppliers available to us and also giving us their old Astra Turf,
and while we will not be able to transport it all up here, we will
be able to utilize some of it.
Drivers' Course:
Three of our drivers spent a week in Harare at an Advanced Driver's
Course these holidays. The course is very comprehensive, covering
all areas of driver knowledge, from safety to hijacking. We are proud
of what they have achieved and are delighted to have been able to
do this. It will enhance the safety of your boys on our buses.
Finally, my grateful thanks to everyone from all over the world who have contacted the College and who have been so magnificently generous towards the Keegan Langley Trust. The efforts of our Chairman, our CEO and so many others, have been nothing short of magnificent and we really do appreciate it.
Have a wonderful week.
