Headmaster's newsletter, 5 June 2009

I hope that you have had a restful weekend with your sons. Thank you to all those who took part in the walk in Harare last weekend for the Keegan Langley Trust. The turnout was very good indeed and we, as a College, are incredibly grateful to Mrs. Joy Wicks and to all who assisted with the organisation, and to all who participated.

I spoke to the boys in our Assembly before the weekend about the reputation of the College being tarnished by boys who, at weekends, behave badly when out of uniform. Sadly, people know where these boys attend School. It is a fact that we have a lot of critics out there. Mostly it is because we are as good as we are. I appeal to all parents to please make quite sure that you are aware of what your boys are up to over weekends and that they behave as we would expect Falcon boys to behave. I cannot stress enough how important I feel parental control should be at all times.

St. John's Weekend -12/13/14 June 2009:
Sadly, after agreeing in principle, St. John's College is unable to send down their U14's and U15's to play at Falcon. The U16 A's and B's, however, will be coming down with the 1sts to the 4ths.
Our U14A's and B's, and U15A's and B's, will thus travel to Harare on Saturday morning to play Rugby on Saturday afternoon. They will play Hockey on Sunday morning, returning to Falcon on Sunday afternoon. This will enable our boys and coaches to take part in some of the Jake White weekend.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

THE GIRLS' COLLEGE LITERARY FESTIVAL:
The following boys are to be congratulated on achieving Honours' awards at the Festival:
Andile Moyo, Ryan Kemp, Kudzai Zishumba, Leroy Sibanda, Sambulo Sibanda.

SCHOOL PLAY: "Anything Goes"
This is being staged at the Bulawayo Theatre this coming week on Thursday 11th-Saturday 13th June and we really would like your support. It is a joint venture with Girls' College and we would love to see you there. Tickets are on sale at the Bulawayo Theatre (Phone 09-65393). The Gala evening is scheduled for Thursday 11th June.

TELEPHONES:
Please be advised that we are in the process of upgrading our Telephone Exchange PABX. In order for work to be carried out, there will be an unavoidable disruption to our telephone services. There will, therefore, be no landlines available this Friday 5th June 2009 from lunch time onwards, with the possibility of disruptions going on into the Saturday morning. We will have our cell phone handsets available, however, but please bear in mind that we will be unable to transfer calls on these lines. These numbers are:
011 615 746
011 613 589
We do apologise for this inconvenience. However, it does mean that once the work is complete, we will have extra cell phone lines on our switchboard.
And while on the subject of landlines, please note that all small towns in Zimbabwe have had their area codes changed. Esigodini is no longer 088, but is now 0288, followed by the number.

SAN:
Many medical aid members may not be aware that their membership has lapsed, especially those whose companies were subscribing on their behalf.
Before updating your son's medical questionnaire, please check with your medical aid society as to your membership status and if possible, ask for a letter from them stating that your membership is current. This includes foreign medical insurance companies.
Most Health Care professionals are asking for this information and it would be a great help in updating our San records.

FORM ONE 2010:
Please note that there are still some who have not replied and we need these Form A responses returned to us as soon as possible.
