Headmaster's newletter, third term, week five |
Our U16 Soccer side played in an International Tournament
in South Africa over the fixture free weekend at the International
School of South Africa. In the first round we played Maruapula and
won 3-1. We then played the The International School's 2nd side and
draw 1-1. We played Mondeo and lost 1-2.
In the quarter final we lost to Rainbow 1-2. We then played in the
plate event where we beat Crescent 8-0 and won the plate final against
The International Schools 2nds 2-0.
The Head of sport Mr Henry Mathews said the following and I quote "This letter serves to inform you that your School under 16 Soccer team, who finished a creditable fifth place in the festival, have been an absolute credit to not only Falcon College but Zimbabwe as a whole. Our Educators and Students alike have asked me to convey to you our sincere appreciation for their excellent behaviour and sportsmanship, both on and off the field. "
My grateful thanks to Ms Treasure Ndlovu and Mr Artwell Mutape who
spearheaded this trip.
Cricket- St Johns 20/20 Competition.
Our 1st X1 participated in this tournament over the fixture free weekend.
The team lost to Prince Edward by 4 wickets to Churchill by 10 runs
and Peterhouse by 5 wickets. Corey van Rensburg won an award for good
sportsmanship.
MARK ORDERS
We have just had our first mark order and have decided that we would
take "Effort Symbol Averages" as a way of allowing boys
to take their 3rd floating weekend. If a boy averages below 2,5 for
all his subjects at the next mark order, we will withdraw the floating
weekend option. We calculate the scores as follows A= 1 , a B = 2
and an E = 5. Boys who have failed to average better than 2.5 in this
mark order have had their names listed on boards in Houses and outside
the Dining Hall as an "orange light". A warning of what
is to come if we do not have a change in EFFORT.
The Annual Heads Conference took place this past week in Harare. It was dominated by Falcon or ex Falcon people. Neil Todd is the CEO of the Independent Schools organizatio; Patrick Mavros a Board Member and Old Boy was the guest speaker at our annual dinner. Paul Davis Head of Ruzawi. Mike Mackenzie Head of St Johns Prep and Howard Matthews head of Bryden are all Old Boys'. One of the outstanding speakers was Larry Norton, the wild life artist who becomes a Falcon parent in the new year. The conference was enlightening and fulfilling in every way.
I look forward to seeing some of you this weekend at the College when we play cricket against Peterhouse. I would also encourage those of you living in Harare to support our swimming team in our first venture into a national swimming gala being held in Harare on Saturday.
A quote from the conference -
" Think of life as a terminal illness - live it as if
there were no tomorrow".
