Headmaster's newletter, third term, week ten

MR. DOUGALL TURNER:

Mr. Turner, a former Headmaster, has passed away. He was a renowned figure in every possible way.
An Old Boy of the College wrote this week: "He was 'The College'. When he walked down the avenue from his house to the office, all knew, this was 'The Head'".

He has left an indelible mark on the lives of almost 1 500 young men who are now all over the world.

On behalf of Old Boys, Members of Staff who remain at the College, the Board of Governors, and today’s staff and boys, we extend to Mrs. Turner and her family our deepest and most sincere sympathy at this time.

It does seem really early, but the first of our 6th form candidates has left the school on completion of his exams. The lower part of the school would have completed their internal exams by the time you read this, and the task of marking and report writing will begin in earnest.

Soon our exam candidates’ reports will arrive on my desk and our final fixture free weekend is upon us.

PLEASE !!This plea goes out once again - the term is far from over and we need all boys at school until the final day of term. DO NOT be persuaded by your sons that "the exams are over and we are doing nothing at school". This is not the case and there is an awful lot still left to do.

ACCOUNTS:
We advise that the system of settling your son's account has not changed. The only forms of payment accepted by the College are either cash (payable at any of the 3 Falcon College offices i.e. Esigodini, Bulawayo and Harare), or by RTGS Electronic Payments, directly into one of the Banking accounts held in the name of the College (details of which are available from any of the aforementioned offices). Cheques will not be accepted as payment.

SPORT:

Thank you to those who supported the Swimming Gala last Saturday - despite the rather cool weather which, in fact, was a relief, it went off very well indeed. The House Suppers and Leavers' Dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings respectively, were appreciated by all who attended. The speeches were outstanding, both from our guest, Mr. Mark Saunders, and the Head boy and Deputy Head boy.

The U16 Basketball team was delayed in travelling to Harare on Friday. They travelled up early on Saturday to compete in the tournament. They did exceptionally well under the circumstances and must be commended for their resilience and determination to succeed. Two boys, JT Mutambara and LK Sibanda., were chosen to be in a Zimbabwe U17 squad and JT Mutambara made the team of 12 most valuable players. Falcon lost 10-11 to the eventual winners of the tournament, Gateway High.
