Headmaster's newletter, third term, final week |
We have had some amazing sports' competitions - in house - which are always fiercely contested. The Interhouse relays' swimming gala saw the final race determining the final 5 positions in that Gala. A determined Hervey team won the Gala in a hotly contested 1 x 8 length roll up relay.

The Junior Interhouse Cricket Twenty/20 saw Hervey and Founders play
each other in the first round of the competition, which was a Round
Robin. The match was tied with both sides scoring exactly the same
number of runs. At the end of the competition, both these sides had
exactly the same number of points and so the competition was decided
on run rate, with Hervey once again coming out the winners.

BOYS' REPORTS:
I hope that all parents will find their sons’ reports informative.
We urge parents to go through them with the boys. We would encourage
debate over your son's progress at any time. Your first port of call
would be the Housemaster.
EXTRA LESSONS:
Falcon prides itself in being a school where we cater for all ability
groups. We have a fully qualified remedial teacher, whose sole afternoon
purpose is to help boys with learning difficulties. We want parents
to understand that it is our responsibility to get your son up to
the required level. If a boy requires extra tuition, we will make
it happen. We admit that the mechanics of this particular exercise
have not worked as well as we would have liked, but it is our intention
to improve the situation. Your help in this area would be appreciated
- please let us know if you feel that the process is not working as
well as you would like. Boys themselves are reluctant to spend extra
time on academic work, but no excuses should be accepted.
At this point, I would like to say that 'extra lessons', more of the
same, is often counter-productive, but another person at another time
may get a lad up to where he needs to be.
BOYS ON HOLIDAYS:
I must bring this up again, going into the holidays. The behaviour
of our boys during holiday time is vital. Boys are judged by the school
they attend and our reputation depends on it. We have to maintain
standards. Please impress this upon your children I do, and will continue
to harp on this subject. PLEASE take this responsibility seriously.
Finally, this year - I would like to publicly thank the Board Chairman, Mr. Andy Laing, Members of the Board, the CEO, Mr. Mark Saunders and all others involved in the governance of our College. There are so many things that they do for us in their own time at no cost to the College, that I could fill pages documenting them. We really are extremely grateful.
I would also like to acknowledge our parents for all the support we get from them. Again, there are too many areas to document where parents have been of magnificent help. Thank you all again and please do keep this up in the new year.
On a personal note - my wife and I would like to wish everyone a BLESSED CHRISTMAS and NEW YEAR and a prosperous and positive 2010. I look forward to the year with great anticipation and excitement.
