Headmaster's newsletter, week ten of first term 2010

It was very good to see many of the parents at the Golf Day in Harare last Friday. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and thank you all most sincerely for your generosity towards the College, the Langleys and the Stones.

We have had some good rain again this week, although not enough to cause major inflow into the dams. Sadly, the rain has been disruptive in terms of our athletics' meetings. We did, however, manage to get in our postponed Relays' meeting yesterday (Thursday afternoon). Today we are hosting the Regional Athletics' Meeting and tomorrow we are at CBC to attend their Relays' meeting.

Our Form One Adventure Course, run by Will Randle, took place before last weekend and I know that several of these young men did things and had experiences they have never had before.

Our Natural History group was also privileged over the past weekend to go down to a hunting camp at Dollar Block with Carolyn Guthrie. These boys had a wonderful time and I am grateful to the staff for giving up their precious time.

Our senior Hockey boys played in an Indoor Hockey festival in Harare and while they were unfamiliar with the indoor game, and did not do very well, they nonetheless enjoyed the experience.

LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY BEFORE TERM END:
While I appreciate the sentiments of both boys and parents in terms of travel, please DO NOT ask to have your child out at the weekend. They miss out on an awful lot and it is very disruptive to the Administration and teaching staff. Matters like holiday work, handing out reports, and awards at final assembly, are all missed out on, not to mention the Consultation day.

FOUNDERS' DAY:
Saturday 27 March is our annual Founders' Day and we will be holding our final Athletics' meeting of the season, starting at 8.00 a.m. A couple of the Houses will be doing various food stalls.
We look forward to seeing all you parents on this special day – do come and support your boys at the Athletics' meeting – excitement is always rife and cheering parents do spur the boys on.

CARLISLE PRIMARY SCHOOL FUND-RAISING:
There will be a Tombola and White Elephant table at Founders' Day to raise funds for our Village Primary School, Carlisle. There will also be a car wash on the same day – collect your ticket at the gate ($3 or R20) and have your car washed whilst you relax!

Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."
