Headmaster's newsletter, week three of second term

Winter has arrived - we have had a large number of boys in the San with a bug, and now flu. We do tell boys how to look after themselves in terms of keeping warm after vigorous exercise.

That leads me on to another area of concern and that is the consumption of vegetables. The staff have noticed how few boys actually take vegetables. I have spoken to the School, but would be grateful for your input. I can vouch for the fact that they are not overcooked and are palatable.

I am also concerned about the amount of items - mostly tuck - which are being sent out daily from our town office. On occasions, it is just as well we have a 3-tonne truck! A single boy recently received 6 x 2 litre bottles of juice. This cannot be a healthy situation. Our Tuck shop is extremely well stocked and I cannot see the need for all this extra tuck being sent to the boys. It also creates an enormous amount of extra administration. Please use this service for essential items, and sparingly.

Thank you to the people who have written in about the laundry - it is almost there now with laundry being turned around in two days. I am very happy with the progress being made in that area.

Please could anyone who is not receiving the Newsletter, inform my Secretary immediately. On inspection of the School list, I noticed four people whose addresses have changed who have not informed her. Please keep us up-to-date so that communications remain sound.

Next week is our1st Fixture Free weekend - please make sure that your son has a bus booking, or arrangements have been made for his collection and travel.

I am keen to share this letter we received from Murray MacDougall School in Triangle, after the Primary Schools' Rugby Festival:

"I would like to thank you so much for such an efficiently-run festival. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed it and gained invaluable experience from both competing and watching your Falcon Rugby teams displaying their excellent skills against P.E. It was goose bump stuff for all of us.

You have, from an observer's opinion, the finest brand of boys in the country, as seen from their almost inherent and impeccable manners, and helpfulness. They are just one great family.

The chaperones of Masanga, Njanike and Mathew taught our boys, in a firm, but friendly way, how to follow orders and instructions the Falcon way. Please pass our gratitude to these boys.

Thank you……… and your sociable staff for making us feel at home. You are an efficient group of professionals!"
