| Headmaster's newsletter, week twelve of second term |
PARENTS' MEETING:
Thank you to all the parents who attended the Harare meeting. I appreciate
the frank discussions and the open attitude of the parents. If I know
about matters, I can find ways of sorting them out. Thank you all
again for coming and also for all the positives that came out of the
meeting. If you have not heard from me and you asked me to get back
to you, please do drop me a line on the matter raised.
INTERNAL EXAM RESULTS:
These results are now out and we have analysed them. The Upper Sixth
results are outstanding and if we can maintain that standard, then
we can most certainly look forward to special results at the end of
the year. The 'O' level results were also very pleasing at the top
end and we seem well set. Sadly, the AS results were disappointing
and boys in that area of the college are going to have to work very
hard for the remainder of the year. The jump from 'O' to 'A' level
really is a big one and this realization does not seem to have sunk
in. We will be implementing plans to make sure the Lower 6 group is
galvanized into further action.
ENTRANCE EXAMS:
Our entrance exam results are now out and as always, we have a flood
of people trying to get into the College who did not write for Falcon
as their first choice. Places are really tight and now that we have
built-in beds, there is no way that we can squeeze in extra boys,
unless boys do not take up their places.
YOUNG GLOBAL LEADERS' CONFERENCE;
Parents need to be aware that there are several boys who were recommended
for this and have taken up the opportunity. However, I am totally
unaware of some of them taking up the offer. We have had several boys
attend this conference in the past, but I want parents to please make
sure that the School is aware of their son's plans. Should anyone
have a need for further discussion, they should contact myself or
the boy's Housemaster.
SPORT:
RUGBY:
This last week we had three boys called up at very late notice by
the National U19 Rugby squad. They were Corey van Rensburg, Simba
Gonese and Kuda Chiwanza. We congratulate these boys on their selection.
However, none of them feel in a position to go away from School for
two weeks, with academic and sporting commitments still to complete
this term.
ST. JOHN'S GAMES:
Thank you to all the parents and Old Boys who turned out to watch
the St. John's Rugby and Hockey games. The support was amazing and
it really is appreciated by the boys. I appreciate that there was
disappointment by all over the loss of the 1st XV - we all feel those
losses, but they build character and teach us important life lessons.
The Hockey 1st XI must be praised for their amazing performance. They
were quite outstanding on the day.
The Soccer 1st XI also did well and they must be congratulated.
Overall the results were very satisfactory and the boys deserve praise.
