The Library
Opened in 1974, the Dugmore Memorial Library is a large, gracious building which is spacious and comfortable to use. It was recently decorated and plants, wall hangings, comfortable chairs and even a beanbag make it a pleasant environment in which to work.
The Library opens daily until the early evening and is widely used by the boys, staff and all members of the Falcon community. During the public exam period in the 3rd term, senior boys have the use of the library in the evenings It is a valuable haven of peace, a quiet environment for reading, studying and researching.
There are roughly 15000 volumes in the collection with a range of fiction to suit all readers, while non-fiction books cover every topic from Art to Zoology. An extensive reference section comprises a wide variety of dictionaries, atlases and encyclopaedias.
The College subscribes to an impressive range of periodicals, which cover subjects such as art, current affairs, geography, mechanics and design, science, the natural sciences, and many sports. The Chronicle and two local independent newspapers are popular, as is the daily 'Times of London' which is a generous gift of the UK Falcon Old Boys' Association.
In the well of the library there is a bank of 10 computers with a useful selection of CD-ROMs, which are available to the boys. One of the computers has access to the Internet and has an email facility.
Housed in the Library is a collection of nearly 100 videos dealing with various aspects of the natural sciences.
