INTRODUCTION
The teaching staff at Falcon are a wonderful cross–section of youth and experience. All our staff are qualified. We all live on the campus
and we work very hard at making sure they are kept
abreast of the most modern techniques and methods of
teaching.
The Falcon family depends largely on the input of a
dedicated, diverse and talented teaching staff doing what
they know best and that is, "teaching".
That teaching, of course, carries over into sport, cultural and extramural areas in general. We are proud of the fact
that school teachers coach, but we are not too proud to
get in expertise from outside in all areas.
Sports and Athletics benefit the boys because sports and athletics offer several different avenues to becoming more physically, mentally, and spiritually tough. By participating team sports they learn to be reliant on a team effort, not only does this build leadership skills but it also builds up self esteem. Sports and athletics also help to build the participants mental, physical, and emotional awareness. By becoming more aware of oneself through sports and athletics one can grow to levels of emotional matureness that are not readily accessible to those of whom do not participate in sports and athletics.
Apart from enhancing physical skills and general fitness, sports help mentaly too and strengthen the mind, helping people to go farther mentally then they thought would ever be possible. It is proven that people that play sports and become involved with clubs and other groups do better in school. It also allows people to gain recognition in their particular sport.
Our committment to providing the right environment for the boys to participate in physical activity and sports is key to not only our sucess as a college, but also to the success of the boys themselves. The social context of sport is not only therough participation in the event itself but by spectating as well, cheering others on is a very important mechanism for developing friendships both in the game and in practice as well as creating social identity, comonality and unity.
The boys learn to assess their social competence in sports by feedback from parents and coaches. A constant in the learning process is the role of feedback as we assess the responses of others to our behavior and comments. Not only do sports and athletics provide fun for the boys, but it also provides a structured environment. Structure, discipline, teamwork and a desire to improve ourselves are core values we instill in all our pupils.
