The College Curriculum

The First Two Years

At Forms one and two, we aim to offer as broad a range of subjects as possible. Boys study English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Ndebele, Art, Design and Technology, Commerce, Computing and Physical Education.
Pupils are streamed according to their Entrance Exam results but changes are made later if necessary. Generally a class will have no more than 25 pupils and a year group will be divided into four streams.
Boys are set for Mathematics so that pupils of similar abilities can work together.
Life Skills lessons are held in Forms one and two and topics range from Drug Abuse to Personal Hygiene to Health Issues and more.
Adventure Courses are held for boys in their first and second year.

Leading Up to O Level

The boys in the A and B streams study six compulsory subjects and choose two others. Those boys who show an aptitude for sciences may study Physics and Chemistry separately. Other boys study the two subjects combined as Physical Science.
The boys in the C and D Streams study five compulsory subjects and choose two others.

The Sixth Form Years

Once the boys have passed their O Level exams, they move on to the Sixth Form where they write Advanced Subsidiary Level examinations in Lower Sixth and the Advanced Level examinations in Upper Sixth. We try to be as flexible as we can with regard to each boy’s ability and the subjects he wishes to study.
Pupils who do not have a full set of O Levels are unable to continue onto Sixth Form studies and some have to spend a year in Form 5 redoing certain O Level subjects.
A leadership course is organised for Lower Sixth boys in order to prepare them for their roles as leaders in Upper Sixth.

The following subjects are offered at AS Level and A Level:-

English Language (AS Level only) Environmental Management (AS Level only) Physical Education (AS Level only)
Geography Physics Chemistry
Biology History Business Studies
Applied Information Technology Accounting English Literature
Design and Technology Art and Design

Each student chooses three or four subjects to study at AS Level and A Level.
In addition we have introduced Thinking Skills as a compulsory subject for all Lower Sixth students.
