Start of year message from headmaster

It is wonderful to have a fully subscribed staff and a bursting at the seams boy contingent for 2012. I believe from a personal point of view that Falcon College has never been as well poised as we are now.
The world and education are most certainly changing at a rapid rate. We have to develop our teaching and our mindset to keep up with developments in the world so that we prepare young people with relevance. Education is really how young people react when in certain situations and while one has to follow a syllabus, the real teaching comes from applying a system.
I saw the following on a sign at an airport these holidays. "The more one is exposed to the world – the more it opens one's mind to create positive, clear direction"
We all need to step out of our comfort zone, try new things, and utilise our e-learning capacity to the full. Everyone needs to understand that we are not alone in this changing world. The occurrence is in fact international, from the debt crisis in both Europe and America, to the Chinese invasion on the manufacturing front. We in Africa should not forget that our resources, which are still being discovered, are major players globally and will affect the lives of our pupils in the near future.
We need to banish the victim mindset for good – that character that is present in all of us, who holds onto pain and resentment, feels endlessly sorry for oneself and loves to attract sympathy. We need to focus on what is good and healthy in our world, we cannot anticipate issues that may never occur or that we have no control over. Speaking of these negatives is an energy sapping endeavour.
We have to work through all these new situations as change opens up new opportunities which in our part of the world I believe are going to become numerous. Working through new things is in fact as simple as putting one foot in front of the other and going forward from there.
We have to use our strengths give ourselves credit for what we already do well, identify these areas, and really focus on what we know we are good at.
We need to identify the resources that are available to us, get help if we need to in any area, and once we accept that the past is over, we must learn from it. There really is no room for more of the same in any area.
We need to be open and communicate not just the bad but the good in every possible circumstance; we need not to be afraid of making mistakes. We need to stop trying to control absolutely every situation and let what we do contribute to the whole, always evaluating what it is that we're doing. They must always be time for relaxation and we must let the process which has been put in place work for us. The At Falcon College must always be half full and never half empty.
Our mining operation to reconstitute the dumps is now at implementation stage and our other drives to create alternate revenue sources are well underway. The College has engaged a professional to help us with our dream of creating a greener and more environmentally acceptable environment.

Plans for an Astroturf, a performing arts centre, and new buses are all right at the top of our priority list. The implementation of staff salary improvements and housing improvements are also high on the priority list and in fact being implemented as we speak. Falcon is embarking on a very exciting time where the College can most certainly go forward.
